Shocking! Surgical scissor left inside patient for 12 years

Gangtok, October 19: Following a surgery 12 years back, a surgical scissor was left inside a patient’s abdomen in Sikkim which was detected and removed recently.

This incident came to the fore after the patient underwent a major surgery at the STNM hospital in Sikkim on October 8. The surgical scissor was left callously inside the abdomen after the patient underwent a surgery for removal of appendix in 2012.

According to the husband of the woman patient, his wife had undergone surgery for an appendix at the old STNM hospital in 2012. Following the procedure, she began experiencing persistent and severe abdominal pain.

The patient underwent several medical investigations over the years, but somehow the scissor inside the abdomen remained undetected. It was only on October 8 that doctors discovered a surgical scissor lodged in her abdomen following a thorough investigation.

After the scissor was detected inside the abdomen, a team of medical experts promptly performed a major surgery and removed it. According to a health bulletin, the patient is safe and her condition is stable and she is recovering well.

The incident has evoked widespread criticism and outrage across the state and people are demanding action against those responsible for this horrendous negligence. An investigation by the hospital is on.
