Shillong, Oct 7: The East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya has borne the brunt of nature’s fury as it was hit with extremely heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours.
According to India Metrological Department (IMD), between 8.30 AM of October 6, 2023 to 8.30 AM of October 7, 2023, Meghalaya received isolated very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. Some of the areas that were lashed with heavy downpour are Sohra, Shella, Pynursla and Mawsynram.
IMD also released the amount of rainfall received by these areas in the last 24 hours: Sohra – 28 cm, Shella – 27 cm, Pynursla – 16 cm and Mawsynram – 12 cm.
The rest of Meghalaya received light to moderate rainfall observed during the same period.

It is to be mentioned that IMD had warned Meghalaya of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall on October 6, 2023, with rainfall measures ranging from more than 204.4 mm.
The current spell of heavy rains is due to the withdrawal of monsoon.
