Shillong, May 26: Meghalaya joined the country in the celebration of the 2565th Birth Anniversary of Lord Buddha on Wednesday, marked by the Vaishakha Purnima, albeit in a moderate manner owing to the COVID restrictions. In Shillong, the Buddhist priests offered prayers under the Bodhi tree for swift end to the novel corona virus pandemic plaguing the world and establishment of world peace.
Secretary of the Shillong Buddha Temple Stewardship Committee, Aroop Barua said the day is a special day for them and the Buddhists world over as they celebrated the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha as Trivedi Jayanti. At the same time, the committee members offered special prayers at the Buddha shrine in the city by following the appropriate COVID-19 behaviour such as maintaining social distancing and using masks.
