Sonowal appreciates PM for showcasing Arunachal Pradesh’s traditional healer in Mann Ki Baat 2024

New Delhi, Jan 28: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for highlighting traditional healers Yanung Jamoh Lego from Arunachal Pradesh and Hemchand Manjhi from Chhattisgarh in the first episode of his Mann Ki Baat 2024.

Their exemplary contributions to Ayush and traditional knowledge systems are recognised with the prestigious Padma Shri award for 2024.

Taking to X, Sonowal wrote, “Gratitude to Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi for telling the stories of traditional healers Smt Yanung Jamoh Lego ji of Arunachal Pradesh & Shri Hemchand Manjhi ji of Chhattisgarh. Honoured with the #PadmaShri award for 2024, their role in promoting Ayush and our traditional knowledge systems is indeed inspirational.”

A native of East Siang district, the 58-year-old woman, a former deputy director in the state agriculture department, has revitalized traditional treatment methods in Arunachal Pradesh, notably in the Siang belt.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu also congratulated her on receiving the award, hailing it as a moment of pride for Arunachal.

“Hailing from the Adi tribe in East Siang, Ms Lego is an herbal medicine expert who, despite challenges, has devoted her life to the revival of the lost traditional healing system of our state. May you continue your exceptional work,” Khandu posted on X.
