Ampati, Feb 1: In the run up to the upcoming International Water Conclave 2024 (IWC 2024), the South West Garo Hills witnessed an open-to-all district-level painting competition on the theme “Water Conservation” on Thursday.

Organized by the office of the Executive Engineer, Water Resources, South West Garo Hills, at Springfield Higher Secondary School Ampati, the competition saw participation of 34 painters, including school students and citizens. The artists were tasked with depicting the essence of water conservation, emphasizing the sustainable utilization of water resources, exploring the vital connection between water and life, and illustrating a vision for a water-secure future in hilly areas.

These paintings will be forwarded to Shillong for evaluation by a panel of judges, with the top three artists earning the opportunity to compete at the state level.

In addition to the art competition, the pre-conclave activities extend to environmental initiatives. On Friday, cleaning drives of water bodies will be organized at various locations across the district. Saturday will witness the Nature and Nurture Quiz Competition at Springfield Higher Secondary School.

The district aims to foster awareness and engagement on water conservation issues through these multifaceted activities leading up to the International Water Conclave.

The International Water Conclave 2024 (IWC 2024) will be held in Shillong on February 9-10, 2024. The two-day event will consist of keynote speeches, panel discussions, paper presentations, and poster sessions. The International Water Conclave is a 360-degree initiative to conserve and nurture nature’s nectar. This initiative seeks to create a pervading awareness in the community that water as a resource has indeed become alarmingly scarce which may prove to be fatal if its loss continues to go unchecked.
