Shillong, July 13: The South West Garo Hills district administration on Monday issued an Emergency Preparedness Order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, placing all government departments and emergency response agencies on high alert following an India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak, directs all officers to remain at their headquarters and be available for emergency duties. Quick Response Teams (QRTs), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire & Emergency Services, Police, Civil Defence & Home Guards, and medical teams have been instructed to remain on standby for any eventuality.

The district administration has also ordered that rescue equipment, vehicles, emergency gear, food, drinking water, medicines, and other essential supplies be kept ready for immediate deployment.
To ensure round-the-clock monitoring and swift coordination, the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) in South West Garo Hills will function 24×7.
The administration has appealed to residents to stay vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of severe weather, and cooperate with authorities as the district braces for the expected spell of intense rainfall.
