Special Summary Revision of Electro Rolls: Meghalaya has 21.86 lakh eligible voters

Shillong, Oct 26: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya, B D R Tiwari, on Thursday informed that the state has 21,86,151 voters, till October 3, 2023.

Of these, 10,81,006 male voters and 11,00,5142 female voters and three third gender voters. The total service voters are 3,848.

He added that till date 100% EPIC has been distributed and the EP ratio as on 5 January 2023 is 645 and gender ratio in Meghalaya in electoral roll is 1022. “We have 3,482 polling stations. After rationalising during pre revision activities, there are 32 new polling stations that have been proposed and 2 polling stations have been merged. So the total number of PS as on 27 October will be 3,512,” he said.

Tiwari mentioned that they have already held a meeting with political parties where the schedule was briefed and from the political parties they have to appoint Booth Level agents from their end.

The special summary revision of electoral rolls scheduled draft will be published on October 27 and the period for filing of claim and objections will be from October 27 till December 9, 2023.

During this period for filing of claim and objections from 27 October till December 9, 2023, there will be two special campaign dates 11 and 18 November. In these days BLOs will be doing their special campaign at the polling stations.

Checking of health parameters and obtaining of commission’s permission for final publication will be January 1. “Prior to that, by 26 December, 2023, all claims and objections are supposed to be disposed, final public of electoral roll will be on 5 January 2024,” informed Tiwari.

The Meghalaya CEO also informed that there are total of 3,512 BLOs.

Asked how have they ensured that citizens from neighbouring international border like Bangladesh don’t get listed in the electoral roll, Tiwari clarified that after filing claim and objections, the field inspection and verification exercise has been carried out. He added that as per the SOP laid down by ECI accordingly claim and objection has been properly disposed to ensure accurate entry in the electoral roll.
