SSA teachers of Laskeiñ Block organise ‘Letter Campaign’ seeking clearance of their pending salaries

Jowai, Dec 24: In a unique kind of protest, the SSA teachers from Laskeiñ Block on Thursday posted letters from the Jowai Post Office to the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma and the Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui over their pending salary of five months and the hardships they are facing. The letter campaign by the SSA teachers, who are part of the Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA), is meant to inform the Government about the problems faced by the SSA teachers especially with regards to the pending salary of 5 months.

Speaking to media persons during the campaign, the Vice President of the Laskein Block Unit of the MSSASA, Teibor Papang, said due to the pending salary they have been facing problems with regards to their children’s education fees and especially the expenses incurred during the present festive season.He informed that the SSA teachers have already organised a Protest Rally in Shillong recently and following which the Government paid their salary for two months and that with the salary many teachers had to clear off their loaned money.

He also stated that it seems the current trend is that teachers will always have to call for agitation so that the Government will pay their dues.

The teachers also appealed on the Chief Minister and the Education Minister to have pity for the 12,541 SSA teachers of the state because they are facing problems to meet their families demands especially during the Christmas and New Year.
