Starlink Dish and IEDs Recovered in Manipur

Must read

Imphal, Dec 18: In a major breakthrough, security forces have seized a Starlink dish and router from a Meitei insurgent group in Manipur during extensive search operations aimed at curbing insurgent activities.

The operation, carried out across several districts, including Churachandpur, Chandel, Imphal East, and Kangpokpi on December 13, led to the recovery of the satellite equipment.

Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by billionaire Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is renowned for its global broadband capabilities via low Earth orbit satellites. While Starlink is not licensed to operate in India, SpaceX has applied for regulatory approval.

Elon Musk responded to allegations of Starlink’s use by insurgents in India, confirming on X that the service is inactive in the region: “Starlink satellite beams are turned off over India.”

Security officials are now investigating how the Starlink equipment ended up in the conflict-ridden state, given that the service is not authorized for use in India.

In another development, security forces recovered five Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Imphal Valley, preventing a potential terror attack. Acting on credible intelligence, the Indian Army and Manipur Police launched a joint search operation in Maphitel Ridge, Imphal East, and unearthed 21.5 kilograms of explosives.
