State Central Library to host ‘Shillong Book Fair’ from Sept 27 to Oct 3

Shillong, Sept 26: The National Book Trust, India, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, is poised to host the ‘Shillong Book Fair’ from September 27 to October 3, 2023, at the State Central Library in Shillong.

This event is organized in collaboration with the Department of Arts & Culture and the Education Department of the Government of Meghalaya.

The week-long Shillong Book Fair pays homage to Meghalaya’s abundant literary and cultural heritage, often referred to as the “Abode of Clouds.” The fair will exhibit a diverse array of books, including works by local authors and regional literature spanning various genres. Book enthusiasts will have the chance to explore books that reflect the dynamic cultural tapestry of Meghalaya and the North East. Throughout the fair, engaging sessions, book launches, and discussions will provide a platform for readers to interact with their literary heroes. Interactive storytelling sessions and creative workshops will also be conducted for children during the fair, nurturing the next generation of readers and wordsmiths.

In addition to literary treasures, the Shillong Book Fair will play host to cultural performances, creating an atmosphere of vibrancy and cultural richness.

The Shillong Book Fair 2023 will feature approximately 50 stalls by prominent publishers from across the country, including the National Book Trust (NBT), India. These stalls will showcase a diverse range of books related to Meghalaya, regional literature, and various genres in English, Khasi, Garo, and other Indian languages. Visitors will have an opportunity to explore and purchase books that capture their interest, from works delving into the rich literary history of Meghalaya to captivating regional literature that promotes the joy of reading and encourages the exploration of varied literary works.

NBT-India’s Shillong Book Fair 2023 aims to foster a thriving literary community, celebrating the enchantment of books amidst the captivating landscape of Meghalaya.
