State Education Commission meets to address Regional Challenges with Stakeholders in Williamnagar

WILLIAMNAGAR, JUNE 12 : The Meghalaya State Education Commission, led by Chairperson Prof. S.M. Sungoh, convened a meeting with heads of educational institutions in East Garo Hills at Loyola College, Williamnagar, on Wednesday.

The commission, accompanied by Member Secretary Ambrose Ch Marak, advisers Dr. David Syiemlieh and Tony Travert Ch Marak, and East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal, discussed the ongoing educational reforms under the National Education Policy 2020.

Prof. S.M. Sungoh highlighted the commission’s objectives and its mandate to address challenges in human resource development. She emphasized the Meghalaya government’s initiatives aimed at tackling issues within the education sector.

Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal underscored the value of feedback from local educational leaders in enhancing the state’s education system. He also pointed out the specific issues faced by lower and upper primary schools in the district.

The meeting saw participation from various educational leaders, including Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) Samuel K. Sangma, and principals from Holy Family School of Rongjeng, Loyola College, Williamnagar Govt. College, Rongrenggre Govt. Higher Secondary School, Greenyard Higher Secondary, Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Educere Higher Secondary School, and St. George Higher Secondary School, Samanda.

During his welcome address, SDSEO Samuel K. Sangma noted the importance of these interactions for assessing ground realities and obtaining first-hand feedback from educational institutions.

Following the meeting, Prof. David Reid Syiemlieh, former UPSC Chairman and adviser to the commission, shared with Hub News that their visit was focused on understanding educational issues at various levels in the region. He emphasized the importance of local feedback in shaping future educational policies.

Gamchi Timre R. Marak, principal of Educere Higher Secondary School and National Award for Teachers recipient, expressed her appreciation for the meeting. She highlighted the value of such gatherings for addressing challenges and enhancing education quality in Meghalaya.

SDSEO Samuel Sangma expressed optimism that the meeting’s outcomes would positively impact the region’s educational landscape, helping to resolve key challenges through informed discussions and strategic decisions.
