Dimapur, July 20: Students from several schools and colleges joined a protest organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) Nagaland in Dimapur on Monday, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination paper leaks and calling for reforms to restore confidence in the country’s examination system.
The demonstrators alleged that repeated question paper leaks had undermined the credibility of competitive examinations and placed immense mental stress on students. They also raised concerns over reports of students allegedly losing their lives due to exam-related pressure.
Addressing the gathering, Khekhuga Muru said citizens in a democracy have the right to peacefully protest against policies and leaders they believe have failed to safeguard their interests. He said students deserved a transparent, accountable and fair examination system.
Several students and examination aspirants shared their experiences, saying repeated irregularities had jeopardised their careers and eroded the trust of lakhs of candidates preparing for competitive examinations. They questioned the government’s response to their demands for accountability and alleged that students seeking answers were being met with force instead of dialogue.
The protesters said candidates spend months, and often years, preparing for examinations, only to see their efforts undermined by recurring paper leak incidents. They called for comprehensive reforms to ensure a transparent, merit-based and corruption-free examination system.
Members of various organisations and intellectuals also joined the demonstration in solidarity with the students. The protesters reiterated their demand for the resignation of the Union Education Minister and urged the Centre to implement systemic reforms to protect the integrity of India’s education and examination system.
