In a major development in the Tura unrest case, one of the key instigators of the mob violence, Salseng R. Marak, who allegedly urged protestors to burn down the ACHIK campsite and target police and the delegation holding talks with the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, has been arrested.

KHNAM working president Thomas Passah on Monday said the demand of the ACHIK to have Tura as a winter capital is ‘without substantial justification’ as neither is Garo Hills too far from Shillong nor there is any other obstacles for people to travel from Tura to Shillong.

Jagdish Chelani, the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, has called the statement by protestors on indefinite hunger strike led by A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) as an ‘unjustified and wrong statement’ that has been made by the group wherein they have accused the district administration and the government of not responding to their demands or calling them for talks.

Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Jagdish Chelani, has informed that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will be coming to Tura next week and will be interacting with the members of ACHIK, who have been on hunger strike for the last 7 days. In light of this, he has urged the organization to call off the hunger strike immediately.
