A circular from the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Delhi, dated January 19, 2024, referring to April 16, 2024 as the poll date in the Election Planner issued by the Election Commission of India has caused a stir on Tuesday.
This decision comes after the Commission received numerous representations to change the counting date from a Sunday, which holds special significance for the people of Mizoram.
The political parties and NGOs in Mizoram have written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) demanding to change the date of counting for the November 7 Assembly polls.
The slated by-elections are set to be carried out across 51 polling stations within the Boxanagar assembly constituency and 59 within the Dhanpur area.
During the visit, the team will have consultation with political parties and civil society groups, providing a platform for discussions and hearing suggestions or complaints.
