National People’s Party (NPP) candidate, Dr Mehtab Chandee A. Sangma, filed her nomination for the upcoming Gambegre bye-poll on Thursday.

Ruling out any electoral threats from the Congress, Sangma said, “The fight is squarely between us (TMC) and the NPP which is fielding the Chief Minister's wife. The Congress presence is not there. Majority of Congress workers and leaders have also joined us.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced the name of GHADC’s sitting Tura MDC and state vice president Bernard N Marak as its official candidate for the upcoming Gambegre bye-election, to be held on November 13.

The opposition Congress on Thursday announced Jingjang M Marak as its official candidate for the upcoming bye-election to the Gambegre Assembly seat, slated to be held on November 13.

Following Election Commission of India (ECI) officially announcing the date for bye-election for the Gambegre constituency in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district, cabinet minister and National People's Party (NPP) leader, Marcuise Marak, has welcomed the decision, recalling that the seat has been vacant for quite some time.

"The model code of conduct will be applicable in the concerned district, where the Assembly constituency falls in the West Garo Hills," the CEO said

Informing this, State’s Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. BDR Tiwari, confirmed that all preparations are in line with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
