Members of the Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Ri Bhoi District Unit on Friday met the Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) M. Hoque seeking his consideration for the admission of the students from the underprivileged background especially those who wants to pursue MBBS studies.
Three pressure groups – Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) and Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) – have decided to observe the third death anniversary of former Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) general secretary Cherishterfield Thangkhiew on August 13.
It maybe noted that the HNYF has imposed a ban on all Assam-registered vehicles in the Umtyngngar area, demanding that the government introduce a policy to restrict the traffic of non-local vehicles carrying tourists.
The Hynniewtrep National Youth Federation (HNYF) on Friday took action against vehicles with Assam registration, turning them back from the Umtyngngar area. These vehicles were barred from proceeding to popular tourist destinations in Sohra and Dawki.

The number of suspects behind the bomb explosion at Them Mawlong in Shillong city has gone up to seven with the arrest of a key suspect by police from Mairang on Monday.
HNYF president Sadon Blah also accused the police of a knee jerk reaction to the blast victimizing members of his organization and said they would wait for the policec enquiry report.

He stands accused of extorting money from trucks operating on the Umiam-Damsite Bridge.
