HNYF chief “vouches” for arrested member, warns group won’t remain silent if proven innocent

Shillong, March 11: Even as the police investigation continues into the Saturday night blast and subsequent arrest of two suspects, the head of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has “vouched” for the “innocence” of one of its men in the police net warning that the organization won’t remain a mute spectator if the arrested person is proven innocent.

HNYF president Sadon Blah also accused the police of a knee jerk reaction to the blast victimizing members of his organization and said they would wait for the police inquiry report.

The HNYF president, along with its leaders, met Superintendent of Police (SP) East Khasi Hills, Rituraj Ravi, on Monday regarding the police arrest of Tarson Lamba from Dawki who is an active member of the HNYF.

“If he (Tarson Lamba) is found to be innocent, then we will consider our next course of action,” said Blah while speaking to reporters on Monday.

On the statement of the SP mentioning that the arrest was made following suspicion of the individual’s involvement in the IED blast incident on Saturday evening, the HNYF chief refused to accept the police version.

Blah said that Lamba’s arrest is unacceptable to his organization on the grounds the arrested person “Is known to have a very calm demeanor and would not engage in such unlawful acts”.

The HNYF chief further stated that the arrested Tarson Lamba plays an important role in the tripartite peace talks between the banned militant group Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

Lamba has been part of the ongoing peace talks right from the picking up of the HNLC cadres from Dawki, mentions the HNYF chief.
