As Meghalaya pushes towards a target of 3,000 homestays and seeks to deepen tourism-led livelihoods across the state, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday went live on his official Facebook page from Smit, one of Meghalaya's most picturesque and culturally significant villages known for its rich heritage and tourism potential.
In a move aimed at tightening security and streamlining visitor data, the Tourism Department of Meghalaya has announced that all accommodation providers in the state including hotels, guesthouses, homestays, lodges, inns and bed-and-breakfast establishments must now register through a mandatory online platform.
In order to give a further boost to the tourism sector, Lyngdoh also announced the government’s decision to bring some of the major projects which include Orchid Lake Resort, Polo Orchid Shillong under the joint venture mode and said there will be signing of agreement between the government and private players based on their expertise in hospitality and tourism.
