A day after Section 144 CrPC was withdrawn from in and around Tura town, the West Garo Hills district administration has decided to also withdraw the night curfew that has been in place for the past four nights, since Monday.
In an order passed on Thursday, West Garo Hills District Magistrate Jagdish Chelani said Section 144 CrPC will be withdrawn from 5 AM onwards of July 28, 2023 since the situation in and around Tura has returned to normal.
Jagdish Chelani, the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, has called the statement by protestors on indefinite hunger strike led by A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) as an ‘unjustified and wrong statement’ that has been made by the group wherein they have accused the district administration and the government of not responding to their demands or calling them for talks.
Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Jagdish Chelani, has warned of legal repercussions if the members of A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) do not end their hunger strike by Monday, saying the group does not have the permission for it and that it is illegal.
