Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday visited the flood and landslide hit areas of West Garo Hills district and interacted with the affected families in relief camps and villages as well as distributed ex-gratia to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the recent tragedies.
Overall, 15 people have lost their lives in the 3 days of heavy rains in the Garo Hills region with West Garo Hills accounting for 5 deaths, South Garo Hills – 7 deaths, and East Garo Hills reporting 3 deaths
Continuous heavy rainfall has triggered multiple landslides and flash floods across Garo Hills, claiming the life of one woman and leaving several others injured. Rescue operations led by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are in full swing, with flood-hit areas like Silkigre PHC requiring immediate assistance.
