After two days of tension at the bordering areas of Assam and Meghalaya where the local communities from both sides clashed over land, a high-level meeting was convened on Thursday to quell the recurrent clashes.
The Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Wednesday asked the State government to provide adequate security to the people especially the farmers of Lapangap village in West Jaintia Hills after they were allegedly attacked by the people from Assam side.
The clash between the Pnar (Jaintia) villagers of Lapangap in West Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya and the Karbi villagers from the West Karbi Anglong area of Assam continued once again on Wednesday despite the presence of police forces from both the states manning the inter-state border.
