The traditional mask-making and manuscript painting of Majuli have been awarded Geographical Indication (GI) tags by the Government of India, attesting to the unique characteristics of the twin crafts.

The Union Minister said that the development of approach roads and the Majuli bridge will ensure connectivity, and improve the socio-economic conditions of the local population and promote tourism.
"We have to develop our nation on the basis of Bharat’s time-tested selfhood,” that is what was emphasised by RSS chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat at the grand “Luit Subansiri Samavesh” of uniformed Swayamseavks in Majuli on Friday.
