The Meghalaya High Court on Wednesday issued notices to authorities concerned in regards to the non-granting of no-objection certificate (NOC) for conducting the annual pilgrimage to Mawjymbuin cave in Mawsynram under East Khasi Hills District
Spokesperson of the National People's Party (NPP) and former Mawsynram legislator, HM Shangpliang, said Mawsynram, which is known as the 'Wettest Place on Earth,' should be preserved as a tourist destination and not a place of worship.
Speaking to media persons, General Secretary of KSU South West Khasi Hills, Jiedskhem Nongsiej said this demand is not only the demand of pressure groups but it is the demand of all the residents of Mawsynram area which they have been demanding since 2018.
The campaign aimed to provide valuable information about the application process, eligibility criteria, and the diverse career paths available within the CAPF.
Mawsynram, a small village located in Meghalaya, has long held the distinction of being the ‘Wettest Place on Earth’. However, recent changes in weather patterns and rainfall measurements have raised questions about whether Mawsynram can maintain its title.
