Meghalaya Police on Thursday denied that there was any move from the authorities to restrict tourist vehicles registered outside Meghalaya from visiting tourist spots (except Shillong).
Meghalaya police force received a shot in the arm when 146 recruit constables passed out of the Armed Police Training Centre at 2nd MLP Battalion in Goeragre, near Tura, on Monday, with Meghalaya Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang taking the salute in a glittering ceremony witnessed by top police officers and families of the young men and women recruits who took the oath to protect the state and its people.
Close to 80 percent of the 104 Unarmed Branch (UB) constables, who completed their training in Meghalaya police’s 6th battalion on Tuesday, have qualification above the minimum educational criteria.
The three new criminal laws passed by the parliament include: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which will replace the Indian Penal Code 1860, the Criminal Procedure Code 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act 1872, respectively.
While the Meghalaya police is on high alert and have tightened the security in and around the Meghalaya High Court following an email threatening to blow up the Court complex in Shillong city, initial investigation by district police points towards the threat likely to be a hoax.
Post Lok Sabha elections, the state government has begun a major reshuffle starting with the state police force where officers from as high as Inspector General to Superintendents of Police have been changed, as per an order given out on Friday.
