Armed Mongbung Meitei villagers in Manipur successfully thwarted an attack on their village on Tuesday night after suspected militants attacked it with sophisticated arms.
The protest, held at Manipuri Rajbari in Shillong, saw people carrying placards with messages such as "Restore Internet in Imphal Valley" and "Stop Killing Innocent Meiteis."
Dismissing the NSCN-IM’s accusation of targeting minority Christians during the ethnic clashes between Kukis and Meiteis, Arambai Tengool stated that the characterization of it harboring hatred towards Christians is both inaccurate and misleading.
Thousands of people, including women and youths from across communities and tribes from Manipur's valley districts, took out a mass rally under the aegis of Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) demanding territorial and administrative integrity of the state on Friday.
The shutdown stems from various escalating problems in the bazaar area. The Bazaar Shop Owners community, representing both small and large shop owners, unanimously decided on this drastic measure, citing recent violent incidents as a catalyst. Notably, residents of Thangal Bazaar were assaulted at night, prompting widespread fear and unrest.
The young entrepreneur also recommended the participants to read the book so as to get an in-depth understanding the genealogy and factors that led to the ongoing conflict in Manipur, India.
The Manipur police on Thursday not only claimed that “members of Arambai Tenggol” were involved in the “attempt” on the life of a senior police officer and intimidating his family members on the evening of February 27 in Imphal but also accused the Meitei radical group of “engaging in many anti-social activities”.
