The Moidams (also spelt as Maidam) are burial mounds of Ahom kings, queens, and nobles in Assam. The name "Moidam" comes from the Tai words "Phrang-Mai-Dam" or "Mai-Tam," meaning to bury and the spirit of the dead, according to an academic report from Assam government.
Officials announced that a Site Management Plan for Moidams (2023-2030) has been developed by the Department of Archaeology Assam in consultation with the Archaeological Survey of India for the site.
Not only India and Assam are celebrating the inscription of Moidams – the Mound-Burial System of the Ahom Dynastymake as a World Heritage Site, but even Thailand too.
The Charaideo Moidams or Maidams of Assam are all set for a historic day as the Mound-Burial system of the Ahom Dynasty is put to vote to be recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site on Friday.
The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) has recommended that the Moidams of the Ahom Dynasty be inscribed on the World Heritage List. If no country objects, the site will be officially recognized.
