With the South West Monsoon approaching, the Meghalaya government has ramped up disaster preparedness efforts. A high-level review meeting was held in Shillong on Friday, chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, focusing on early warning systems, swift emergency response, and district-level readiness.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted active monsoon conditions over most parts of northeast India in the coming days with significant rainfall activity across various regions.
In response to the recent monsoon rains causing widespread damage across Meghalaya, Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang, on Thursday convened a review meeting with district officials to assess the impact on road connectivity and infrastructure. The meeting also addressed the distribution of relief and fund allocation.
Traffic has been disrupted in many parts of Tura following incessant monsoon rains in the Garo Hills region, causing landslides at multiple locations on Monday morning.
CM also asked the authorities to visit embankment breach areas & monitor them. By closely monitoring the situation, the authorities can make decision accordingly.
