Initially, the charred and beheaded body which was recovered on June 2 in Sapatia Chetia village under Dhakuakhana police station, was presumed to be of local contractor Sunil Gogoi. But later on, the incident became a complex case of mistaken identity and possible insurance fraud. Based on DNA evidence, the case took a twist as the victim, once thought dead, has become the prime suspect and absconder.

The headman mentioned that the police are underway with the investigation and took the body to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
