In a decisive move to combat child marriage and promote gender justice, the Assam government is all set to introduce the Assam Repealing Bill 2024 which aims to annul the Assam Muslims Marriages and Divorce Registration Act of 1935 and the accompanying rules.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that a bill to ban polygamy will be introduced in the next session of the Assam assembly to be held in February.
In a new development, the Assam government is all set to re-launch it’s campaign against child marriages in the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday. He said that state police will arrest around 3,000 men in the coming days.
Taking to Twitter, Sarma said that the state is now closer to creating a positive ecosystem for women’s empowerment, irrespective of caste, creed, or religion.
