Civil society groups in Manipur’s Imphal Valley have intensified protests against the central government, accusing it of failing to curb the ongoing violence in the state. Protesters have begun locking down central government offices and institutions as a symbolic act of defiance.

Within a fortnight of the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, another horrific incident of rape of a minor has come to light from Assam’s Nagaon district.
