In order to cater to the rules and procedures with regard to the citizens’ right to access information and also facilitate the Government to effectively implement the RTI Act, a One-Day sensitization on Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 was organised for the government employees of all departments in West Garo Hills District at DRDA Conference Hall, Tura on Tuesday.
HPC secretary Gurjit Singh said that the colony at Them Iew Mawlong is not only about government employees but it is about people, who have been staying there for the past 200 years.
The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Thursday questioned the decision of the state government to seek clarification in regards to the 342 families of Them Iew Mawlong from the same department, which had replied to information sought under RTI Act, 2005 that there are only 194 families identified as government employees
The State government has directed the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) and Urban Affairs department to reverify and come back with clarification in regards to a recent RTI reply, which indicated that 148 of 342 families of Sweepers’ Colony are illegal settlers at Them Iew Mawlong.
The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) expressed resentment on Monday after RTI findings revealed that out of the 342 families initially identified for relocation from the Them Metor (Harijan Colony) at Themïewmawlong, Shillong, only 194 are employees of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB).
Over Rs 9.28 crore has been spent by the Meghalaya government for treating drug addicts during the past 13 years, as revealed by a recent Right to Information (RTI) report.
They also claimed that none of the schemes were implemented in a proper manner, whether it was a scheme for the construction of school buildings or any other.
