Speaking to reporters on Monday, KHADC Deputy Chief Executive member PN Syiem said that the decision was taken at a meeting convened by the KHADC with the members of the different clans and traditional heads following a lot of debate on the Scheduled Tribe issue and the role of the tribal clans.
Opposition leader in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Titosstarwell Chyne, on Monday claimed that all illegal check gates were closed down during his tenure as Chief Executive Member (CEM).
"The implementation of the new system will, to a great extent, prevent leakage of revenue and we hope that this will also help to increase the professional tax to Rs 20 crore," Syiem said.
Chyne told reporters that the appointment of the nominated MDC was based on an agreement made with the NPP in 2019, when (L) Dr Donkupar Roy was president of the UDP and was Assembly Speaker.
A notification issued by the Secretary of the KHADC said that the Chairman Lamphrang Blah has recognized Chyne as the LO of the KHADC with effect from June 20.
