Shillong, Nov 13: Opposition leader in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Titosstarwell Chyne, on Monday claimed that all illegal check gates were closed down during his tenure as Chief Executive Member (CEM).
“During my time, all illegal gates were closed and only the legal ones were opened,” Chyne told reporters.
The former KHADC CEM however said he did not want to expose the reason why the EC led by him did not close down only one check gate at Diengpasoh.
“All the gates in West Khasi Hills, in Ri Bhoi except that one in Diengpasoh we didn’t close, why we didn’t close it there is some reason behind it, I don’t want to expose it,” he said while adding “But all illegal check gates were close down that time. You remember that time in Mawiong there was no gate. You go to West Khasi Hills, all closed or Kynshi, Mairang. You can ask this from the Truck Association who recently went as a delegation to meet the CEM.”
He was reacting to the recent statement of KHADC chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem.
“Though the CEM has mentioned my name telling the GS to go and ask from the ex-CEM but, unfortunately, I saw the statement of the (former) leader of opposition when he blamed directly that it happened during my time as CEM that I did not take action. But I want to ask him one question – when he was in the opposition during that time in the district council why he didn’t ask this question, and why he didn’t raise this, why he kept silent. In fact, right from that time I had taken action,” Chyne stated.
