Shillong, Feb 19: Chairman of Meghalaya Joint Action Committee on Commercial Vehicles (MJACCV) Wandonbok Jyrwa said that the rate of taxi fares issued by the state government should be relooked considering the hike in fuel prices.
Speaking to Hub News, he said that the taxi fares declared by the government are not suitable at a time when fuel prices are skyrocketing.
“The current taxi fare will not meet the expenses of rising fuel prices. The government should revise a new rate”, he said.
He said that the fuel price was around Rs 74 last year and the rates issued by the government then were considered suitable. He said, “But now the fuel prices are placed at Rs 86 and it keeps increasing, to lower the taxi fare during such a situation is not convenient for the taxi drivers”.
Jyrwa said that the government should call the committee for talks on this and the Transport department should make necessary arrangements accordingly.
