Terrified Assam people seeking pray for peace and permanent settlement to the government

Boko, 17 March: Despite the state government of both Assam and Meghalaya sitting for permanent settlement of 6 places last year which signified as dispute areas, still in such areas the situation grims very high tension many times. Moreover, both state government find out decades old border disputed twelve places along the Assam-Meghalaya border for permanent settlement and out of 12 places, six areas that has been taken up for final settlement are Hahim, Gizang, Tarabari, Boklapara, Khanapara- Pilingkata, and Ratacherra.

Now, the villagers of Malchapara village under Gizang sector, which was already mutually given to Assam, are still grims in high tense situations. Assam supporters are living in fear. A fresh incident came to light, that on last Tuesday, 14 March evening, a Meghalaya supporter mob from the same village attacked Assam supporter people and due to this incident three Assam villagers Shabin G. Sangma (65), Hakier Sangma(35), Chanchan marak(20) injured seriously. Later Boko police went to the spot and controlled the situation.

Regarding the matter, a FIR was submitted by above-mentioned victims to the Boko Police Station and on behalf of the FIR, a Police team led by Sub Inspector Juli Das arrested two accused on Wednesday early in the morning and later in the afternoon they were sent to the judicial custody. Investigation officer Juli Das said that according to the FIR, around 108 families living in the Malchapara village and forty families, out of 108 families support Assam and other families support Meghalaya. Due to this, most of the time, Meghalaya supporters who live in Assam’s Malchapara village threaten or beat the Assam supporters.

“Our investigation is going on and nearly thirty accused persons are yet to be apprehended. Sixtser Sangma and Chawan Marak were arrested already and we will catch the rest of them very soon”, Added SI Juli Das.

“According to the FIR, attackers came with sharp weapons and attacked them”, added SI Juli Das.

When I visited the Malchpara village, the village was like a morgue, due to the fear. The village headman Epparson Sangma requested and prayed to the Assam state government for maintaining peace and permanent settlement of border dispute, so that people who want to live in Assam can live peacefully without any clash.

“I was also a victim of Meghalaya supporter’s attack on the last 01st February month of this year when I took part in a village general meeting. So I prayed to the Assam government, kindly settle the issue as soon as possible”, added Epparson Sangma, village headman, Malchpara.

A victim, Hakier Sangma(35) said that on Tuesday evening around 20 to 30 people with various sharp weapons came and started threatening and then attacked us, later we came to know that they were drunk and came from a weekly market in Hahim.

Starson Marak, 83 years old man also said that he was also a victim of Meghalaya supporters while he raised his voice for his support in Assam in a public meeting. “I was attacked by some young people who support Meghalaya and later I paid five hundred rupees as fine for supporting Assam state”, Added Starson Marak.

He also added that he was born in Assam and he will die in Assam. “I have seen the deviation between Assam and Meghalaya, but my parents decided to live in Assam and now I will live in Assam until my death”, added Starson Marak.
