Shillong, Feb 9: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today said that the opposition should focus on issues of concern rather than opposing Governor’s address in Hindi.
“It is meaningless to issue threat and oppose Governor’s address in Hindi. It would be meaningful if the honourable members would put focus on those issues that are important for the State”, he said.
Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) has threatened to stage a walkout if the Governor address the upcoming Budget Session in Hindi.
He said that the rules are there and the rules allow anybody to speak provided the copy of the speech is made available in English.
The Chief Minister further stated that the Governor of Meghalaya has his limitations and speaking in Hindi is not nothing wrong as the address will be translated into English.
“The speaker has informed that with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) or through translator the speech will be translated to English”, he added.
He further advocated that in a democracy, the legislators should focus to raise concerns of the people and the state.
“We are ready to discuss and debate on various issues and we have always been positive in terms of recommendations and resolutions given. Even if it comes from the opposition, if we find it is good, we don’t ever hesitate to accommodate”, he added.
