Guwahati, March 29: To discuss the issue of appointment of an interlocutor for talks, Tipra Motha Party (TMP) chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma along with senior party leaders reached Guwahati on Wednesday.

Debbarma is likely to hold a meeting with Assam chief minister and North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Debbarma last week said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah called him up and assured to appoint an interlocutor for talks by March 27.

Party President B.K. Hrangkhawl, MLAs Animesh Debbarma, Brishaketu Debbarma, Biswajit Kalai reached Guwahati along with Debbarma.

Speaking to media persons in Agartala on Wednesday, Debbarma said, “I have received a call from Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to meet in Guwahati. If government appoints an interlocutor it is okay or we will sit in opposition and the government knows what we can do sitting in opposition.”

Earlier, he had threatened to launch a fast-unto-death stir over the delay in the appointment of an interlocutor to study and examine the demand for “constitutional solution” to the issues and problems of Tripura’s 14 lakh tribals.

“My dear Tiprasa people, you have given me a lot of love and respect. If required, I will resort to a hunger strike from tomorrow. I cannot cheat you. I don’t care about my health or illness,” Debbarma said.
