Shillong, July 17: The Hima Nongkhlaw on Tuesday inaugurated a Museum and Cultural Center in Nongkhlaw to commemorate the 189th death anniversary of Tirot Sing Syiem.
The Museum and Cultural Center was inaugurated by the Minister of Arts and Culture, Paul Lyngdoh who was also the chief guest at the event in the presence of Mairang MLA, Metbah Lyngdoh, Principal Secretary, Arts and Culture, FR Kharkongor, Syiem of Nongkhlaw Hima PM Syiemlieh and other dignitaries in attendance.
The museum and cultural center, implemented by the Department of Arts and Culture of the State Government, was constructed at a cost of ₹2.5 crore, funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs of the Union Government. Inside, visitors can explore various stories about Tirot Sing Syiem, the weapons he used during the war against foreign troops, and historical narratives about the Hima Nongkhlaw and the tyranny of the British, including the proposed road to Dhaka.
The Tirot Sing Syiem Museum and Cultural Centre promises to be a valuable resource for researchers and anyone interested in learning more about Tirot Sing Syiem’s life and legacy.
