TMC candidate Zenith taunted by Congress for comparison with apes

Must read

Tura, June 5: The opposition TMC has become the favorite target of the victorious Congress supporters in Garo Hills following the June 4th results that saw their candidate Saleng A Sangma trounce three time sitting MP of the NPP Agatha K Sangma and relegate the TMC candidate to a distant third.

Anger against the TMC candidate had been building for over a month after he had equated the noise made by the Congress to that of a primate.

Giving it back in the same coin to the TMC and its erstwhile candidate Zenith M Sangma, victorious Congress supporters in Tura have been aping the call of the endangered Hollock Gibbon primates that live high up in the Tura mountain peak.

On victory day, as Congress candidate Saleng A Sangma cruised through Tura town in a victory parade, hordes of Congress supporters in dozens of vehicles gave out a shrill cry mimicking the gibbons to send a message to the TMC.

The gibbons are known for their high pitch sounds that they make at sunrise as they climb down the mountains to the outskirts of Tura town in search of fruits on trees.

Desperation and anger at the lack of support appears to have riled the TMC candidate and younger brother of former chief minister Mukul Sangma, who had remarked that the congress noise was equal to that of the gibbons sound.

Presuming that the Congress support was minimal but the noise maximum, Zenith had remarked, “Even the huros (gibbons) can make the loudest noise though they may be just a pair.”

On result day, the TMC found out the hard way (read loudest way) when the numbers came out.

Sounds of the gibbon filled the air as the congress supporters passed through, much to the chagrin of the TMC. That sound will haunt the TMC and its candidate every sunrise when the gibbons rant in the air with their cries.
