TMC, HYC and other youth groups joins FASTOM in the agitation

Must read

Shillong, July 1: Entering day 4 of their indefinite strike or a sit in demonstration, the Federation of All School Teachers Of Meghalaya (FASTOM) on Friday was able to garner more support from different sections of the society.

Pressure groups like the Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC) and political party like the All India Trinamool Congress arrived at the Additional Secretariat, where teachers are protesting, to show their support.

FASTOM protesters grew in numbers as each day passed by. On day four nearly 1000 ad-hoc teachers participated in the sit in demonstration.

Earlier they started off their protest infront of Secretariat and had camped the entire night on the pavements of the IGP area.

FASTOM have been demanding for enhancement of salaries and also to upgrade ad-hoc teachers to deficit system. In the past months protests were held but after a fruitful meeting with the CM they agreed to call off their protest after they were assured that their demands would be taken up in the Cabinet.

Spokesperson Mayborn Lyngdoh in a recent interview had mentioned that the government failed to keep its words to decide on the demands of the teachers in three cabinet sittings. Hence they were determined to carryout the indefinite strike.

Mayborn Lyngdoh said that he has conveyed the message of the deputy chief minister to the teachers, however the teachers have decided not to come to a conclusion as yet concerning their protest and will only take a call once they see for themselves or watch the news on what the deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong had briefed to the media on Friday evening.
