Boko, 23 February: The North East will soon top the country’s charts in natural rubber production. The Central Rubber Board (CRB) has launched a special scheme to encourage farmers in Assam, Meghalaya and other North Eastern states to harvest and produce natural rubber.
Omega Nursery has set up 40 hectares of land in Umshru-Paham village in Meghalaya as part of the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ project.
Anshuman Singhania, Chairman, Automotive Tire Manufacturers’ Association (ATMA) and JK Tyre Vice President, inspected the nursery on Thursday accompanied by Rajiv Budhraj, Director General of ATMA, Dr. Ashritha, Project Coordinator, V. A. Shakeer, Commissioner, Rubber Board.
The Nursery has been set up under the supervision of the Central Rubber Board.
Speaking to the reporters after inspecting the project, Singhania promised that every member company of ‘ATMA’ will co-operate and collaborate in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of a self-reliant India.
He also said that ATMA will invest in setting up rubber and related industries in Assam and neighboring states once the rubber production process reaches its full capacity. He called for the cooperation of the state governments, local administrations and conscious people in this regard.
He hoped that the establishment of industries for the production of various products including rubber and tyres would provide employment to thousands of people and would boost the socio-economic development of the region.
The ATMA will hold a two-day special program at Borjhar, Guwahati from Friday with the participation of representatives of the country’s largest tyre companies and officials of the Central Rubber Board.
The programme, titled “Indian Natural Rubber Organization for Assisted Development (INROAD) Project”, will highlight the scope of the rubber industry in North East India and the various aspects related to it.
