Shillong, Dec 2: Toxic Pony, a band from Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District, has won the Red Ribbon Superstar Meghalaya Icon 2023, a rock band music contest aimed at raising awareness about HIV/AIDS amongst the youth of the state.
With winning the title, Toxic Pony is now the official Ambassador of Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, Shillong. The second place was secured by the ‘Strange Origin’ band from Tura, while the third place went to the energetic band ‘Saihon’ from Shillong.
Organized by the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MAC)S, Shillong in collaboration with Inspire Relations and Communications, Shillong, the event was held with the primary objective of actively engaging the demographic aged 15 to 29 years, and the powerful medium of music, to spread crucial information about HIV and AIDS prevention.
The campaign aligns with the initiatives of the National AIDS Control Organisation and MACS.
Awards were also presented in individual categories to recognize outstanding contributions:
Best Theme Song: Band Saihon, Shillong
Best Vocalist: Sunny Tengban R Marak from Strange Origin
Best Guitarist: Batistuta Jachon M Marak from Strange Origin
Best Bassist: Shantre Dame M Lamare
Best Drummer: Dolreich B Kharmawphlang from Saihon
Winner Band: Toxic Pony, Jowai
1st Runner Up Band: Strange Origin, Tura
2st Runner Up Band: Saihon, Shillong
