Agartala, Sept 30: The 12-hour bandh disrupted vehicular movement and normal life in Tripura on Saturday, including train services.
The bandh was called by TIPRA Motha to demand for the establishment of Greater Tipraland.
TIPRA Motha, the principal opposition party in Tripura, has been engaged in discussions with the central government regarding this demand.
Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma urged the state’s tribal population to unite in a collective movement, transcending political, ethnic, and religious lines.
Debbarma also emphasized the need for a peaceful strike without resorting to violence under any circumstances.

Talking to reporters, Kamal Kalai, Executive Member of the Tripura ADC, said that Motha supporters engaged in picketing at 29 locations within the West Tripura district’s ADC areas, including blockades on rail tracks.
He expressed their demand for Greater Tipraland, highlighting that despite assurances made 76 years ago during the state’s merger with the Indian Union, tribals in Tripura have been deprived of development, land rights, and cultural rights.
Their collective aspiration now is a separate state for overall development through constitutional means.
Opposition leader Animesh Debbarman claimed that the strike had achieved total success, garnering support from both tribal and non-tribal communities residing within the district council areas. He hinted at impending decisions from the central government after Saturday’s strike and subsequent discussions with TIPRA Motha.
