Agartala, Jan 24: A BJP worker was attacked with sharp weapon by miscreants early morning on Tuesday, when he went for morning walk. The incident took place at Banamalipur in Agartala.

The BJP worker has been identified as Suman Das, SC Morcha Mandal president of Banamalipur.

Ahead of Tripura assembly polls, sporadic incidents of political violence have been reported from various areas of the state.

Critically injured Das was rushed to hospital for treatment. He has under gone treatment at the trauma centre of AGMC and GB hospital.

Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb rushed to the hospital to enquire about the condition of Suman Das. Deb assured his family members that strict action will be taken against the persons who were involved in the attack.

Speaking to media persons, Biplab Kumar Deb said, “We have filed an FIR at police station against the persons involved in the attack. Suman Das is a dedicated party worker. This was a pre-planned attack. We have already talked to the DGP for taking action against the culprits. This time we will not tolerate such incidents.”

“We have mentioned the name of the person in the FIR. The person has been running a ‘mafia raj’ in Banamalipur constituency. But this time we will not tolerate such act. Those who were involved in the attack will be arrested by today evening. I have called DGP to take strict action against the persons,” Deb said.

Deb further said, “CPI-M and Congress supports political violence; and under one person’s instruction, the political violence happened in Banamalipur constituency. But this time we will not tolerate his activities.”

Tripura has a long history of political violence during elections. Yet again political violence have started in the state ahead of assembly polls.

The 60-member Tripura Assembly will go to polls on February 16 and the results will be declared on March 2.
