Tripura: Mizoram resident arrested with drug worth Rs 14.16 crore from Indo-Bangla border

Agartala, June 11: Custom officials on Saturday arrested a Mizoram citizen in the Integrated Check Post (ICP) along the India-Bangladesh border with 2023 gram of heroin worth Rs 14.16 crore from his possession.

The drug peddler, a Mizoram citizen has been identified as P. Thomas. He is a resident of Mizoram’s Serchhip district.

While speaking to media officials, Assistant Commissioner of Custom Abhyudoy Guha said that drug peddler P. Thomas came from Doha (Qatar) by a flight to Bangladesh capital Dhaka and then he came to Agartala-Akhaura ICP on Saturday afternoon to go to his home in Mizoram’s Serchhip district.

Official said , during a thorough search of his luggage, two packets containing 2023 grams of heroin wrapped in X-ray blocking paper board was recovered.

He also said that the heroin was concealed in such a way that even X-ray machines could not detect them.

Following this P. Thomas was arrested under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.
