Agartala, Oct 29: In response to the escalating traffic congestion in Agartala, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Monday that the state government is rolling out a “multi-pronged plan” aimed at significantly enhancing road safety and improving travel conditions across the capital.
During a traffic management review meeting, Saha outlined the new approach, emphasizing that a combination of measures will be introduced to address congestion, curb vehicular growth, and ensure smoother traffic flow. This multi-faceted strategy includes regulating car sales to limit the influx of new vehicles on the road, monitoring the disposal of vehicles older than 15 years, and enforcing speed limits on major roads and flyovers.
“The state government is committed to ensuring that citizens can travel safely on the roads,” Saha said. “Increasing the number of parking zones in Agartala is essential to alleviating traffic congestion, while traffic police, the Transport Department, and Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) must work together to manage congestion hotspots effectively.”
As part of the comprehensive plan, the CM directed the Traffic Unit, AMC, and Transport Department to monitor battery-operated rickshaw movement on Agartala’s busiest streets. He also urged strict monitoring of no-parking zones and strict action against violators.
The government’s “multi-pronged plan” represents a coordinated, strategic effort to tackle road safety and traffic issues on multiple fronts, bringing together several departments to create a more organized and safer travel environment for the citizens of Tripura.
