The rally organized by Left parties and Congress was led by four time Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar and Congress central leader Dr. Ajay Kumar, who had sustained injuries in Congress – BJP political clashes on January 18.

Manik Sarkar, who is also the leader of opposition in Tripura Assembly, claimed that at least 25 CPI-M functionaries were killed during the 59-month-long BJP-IPFT rule.

On Friday, the Election Commission suspended a sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) and removed two officers in-charge (OCs), a day after an alleged attack on a Congress rally in Tripura. The poll body suspended the officers for not taking “appropriate action” during the bike rally in West Tripura Majlishpur district, barely 18 kilometres from the state capital Agartala.
