AMKA holds its 48th Annual Conference at Sohliya village to unite the Karbi Community in Meghalaya and preserve their identity

Nongpoh, Jan 21: With an aim to bring unity among the Karbi Community in Meghalaya and to preserve of their own identity in the State, the All Meghalaya Karbi Association (AMKA) held its 48th Annual Conference at Sohliya village, which is one of the villages situated in the remote area of Ri Bhoi District.

The Executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Syrya Rongphar, graced the annual conference as the chief guest in the present of B.S. Teron, the founder member of AMKA, President of Karbi Students’ Association, Samdon Teron, AMKA President, Bistocan Timung and other prominent leaders from the Karbi Community and the representatives from different villages of Ri Bhoi District among the others.

As highlighted by the leaders of AMKA, the main motive of organizing this annual conference by the All Meghalaya Karbi Association is to bring unity among the Karbi community who settled in Meghalaya and also to preserve their own identity and culture that needs to be preserved as led by the ancestors.

During the meeting, they also conveyed the message of love and peace that needs to be maintained between the Khasi and Karbi Community. They also stressed on maintaining the spirit of brotherhood as they have eaten and lived together since time immemorial.

They further exhorted that the Khasi Community and the Karbi Community should not create any differences or the communal feelings, as both the Khasi and the Karbi community had lived together not only in Meghalaya but also in Karbi-Anglong area in Assam.

The annual conference was also enthralled by the traditional dances and songs performed by the Karbi youth from different villages of Ri Bhoi.
