Tura, June 7: In a step aimed at encouraging greater participation of Northeast youth in India’s civil services, the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), in collaboration with the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), conducted interviews on Friday to select candidates for a UPSC coaching programme in Tura.
The interviews were held at Don Bosco College (Higher Secondary Section), Tura, in the presence of NESO Assistant Secretary General Manseng A. Sangma. A selection panel constituted by the GSU carried out the screening process under his guidance.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to identify and support promising candidates from the region who aspire to join the country’s premier civil services through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination.

Addressing the programme, representatives of NESO reiterated the organisation’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities and creating pathways for young people from the Northeast to pursue careers in public service and administration.
The organisers said such initiatives are intended not only to provide coaching support but also to encourage greater representation of Northeast communities in the civil services, where candidates from remote and underserved areas often face challenges in accessing quality coaching and mentorship.
The successful completion of the interview process marks another step in efforts to nurture future administrators, policymakers and leaders from the region.
The organisers also acknowledged the support extended by Don Bosco College (Higher Secondary Section), Tura, for hosting the programme and facilitating the selection process.
