Northeast fashion takes centre stage as NEIFW marks landmark 10th edition

Guwahati, July 25: The 10th edition of the Northeast International Fashion Week (NEIFW) concluded in Guwahati, bringing together celebrated designers, emerging talent and international participants in a showcase that blended fashion with a strong message on climate action.

Held under the theme “Save the Earth, Style the Future” the two-day event highlighted sustainable fashion and environmental awareness while reaffirming the Northeast’s growing stature on India’s fashion map.

The milestone edition featured renowned Mumbai-based designers Felix Bendish, whose creations have been showcased at London, Paris, New York and Lakmé Fashion Week, and Sakshi Bindra, known for her resort wear collections and celebrity clientele. Alongside them, more than 30 established and first-time designers from across the Northeast and the country unveiled their latest collections, many inspired by the region’s rich handloom traditions, indigenous textiles and craftsmanship.

The runway also welcomed designers from Nepal, reinforcing NEIFW’s vision of fostering cross-border creative collaborations. Participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan and other neighbouring countries have been part of the platform over the years, making it one of the Northeast’s most diverse fashion showcases.

A key highlight of this year’s event was the recognition of ten personalities who have significantly contributed to the growth of the region’s fashion industry. Among those honoured were actor Diganta Hazarika, fashion promoter Medha Saikia, designer and filmmaker Dipankar Kashyap, designer Meghna Rai Medhi, celebrity makeup artist Christina Joseph, fashion educators Sumita Dey Deka and Usmita, choreographer Meenu Paul, and photographers Kamal Barman and Anup Baruah.

Organised by Kreative People under the leadership of veteran fashion designer and choreographer Prasantt Ghosh, NEIFW has evolved into more than a fashion event since its inception in 2015. Besides promoting Northeast handloom and handicrafts on national and international platforms, the event has consistently championed social causes, including environmental conservation, organ donation and support for old-age homes.

With participants ranging from children and aspiring models to seasoned designers and international guests, the 10th edition once again positioned the Northeast as an emerging destination for fashion, creativity and sustainable design.
